You are welcome to contact one of the clergy to talk about arranging a wedding at either St Mark’ or St James’, and there is also some very useful general information on https://www.yourchurchwedding.org

For Wedding enquiries please contact weddings@parishofshere.com

Here are some frequently asked questions:

Who can be married at St James’ or St Mark’s?
Anyone who lives in the Parish of Shere or whose parents live here is generally entitled to be married at St Mark’s or St James’, irrespective of whether they attend church regularly. Under the Church of England Marriage Measure 2008, it is also possible for other couples who live in the parishes of Chilworth and Albury, as well as those who live elsewhere to get married here.  Help on qualifying connections is available on the above link.

How can I find out whether I live in the parish?
You may ring us and ask or put your postcode into this link: http://www.achurchnearyou.com/parishmap.php

Are there any other restrictions?
Special regulations apply if you are not British Nationals and have not resided in the UK for 6 months. We will help you with these when you contact us.

Does it matter if one of us has been divorced?
Divorce is not always a barrier to remarriage in church, but if either of you has been divorced, please speak to one of the clergy to discuss your particular circumstances.

How do I book a wedding at either church?
Once we have confirmed that you are able to be married here, we will discuss dates and times with you.  Our Wedding Administrator, Jane Cross, will then arrange the practicalities, helping you to complete the necessary documentation.

What happens after that?
We aim to work very closely with you as you prepare for your wedding. At the beginning of each year, we hold a meeting in church for all the coming year’s wedding couples. This is an opportunity for you to meet the minister who will officiate at your wedding and our Wedding Administrator, and to begin the detailed process of arrangements.  You will also have the opportunity to get to know some of the other couples and to talk about what it means to embark on Christian marriage.

A second meeting, with the minister taking your service, will be arranged for about 6 weeks prior to the service. This gives you a further opportunity to discuss arrangements, to meet the minister privately, and to talk more personally about marriage. Finally, we will organise a rehearsal for a few days before the wedding so that all the key people know what will happen and their part in the ceremony.
